Sample Instructor Notes
What is this slide for: Key Characteristics of Gaming in Metaverse
This slide covers: This slide depicts the characteristics of gaming in the Metaverse. The characteristics are games-as-platforms, social gaming, play to earn, the possibility of portable game assets, and mixed reality experience.
Instructor’s Notes:
The Characteristics of Gaming in Metaverse are:
- Games-as-platforms: The gaming experience will become significantly more adaptable. Users can contribute to the virtual world by creating content, creating sub-games within a game, and treating the gaming environment as a platform-like space for other activities
- Social Gaming: The Metaverse is inherently social, distinguishing it from the traditional solitary VR experience. Multi-player gaming will take on a new dimension as players will be able to invite real-world friends, interact with other players, build relationships, etc
- Play to Earn: This will be an essential aspect of gaming in the Metaverse. Players can engage in profitable activities in addition to following linear storytelling and rules. For example, they may be able to sell the assets they have won in the game to other users in exchange for cryptocurrency
- The Possibility of Portable Game Assets: The Metaverse's interoperable architecture may enable asset portability. Weapons or avatar enhancements obtained in one game could be transferred to another, and NFT rules would govern ownership continuity
- Mixed Reality Experience: The Metaverse uses AR and MR to provide a more natural experience. Gaming in the Metaverse could incorporate mixed reality, with users seamlessly transitioning from group text in AR to MR board game to a total VR world
What is this slide for: Major Challenges to Metaverse
This slide covers: This slide draws up a list of challenges that the Metaverse has to be prepared for. The significant challenges are hardware, identity & reputation, privacy, space and time, security and data storage, Metaverse currency and payment systems, ownership and property, and legal and jurisdiction systems.
Instructor’s Notes:
The challenges to metaverse are as follows:
- Hardware: The Metaverse is currently disproportionately on VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), and MR (Mixed Reality) technologies and devices. These are not portable, lightweight, or affordable, the Metaverse cannot be widely adopted. Besides the ungainly hardware and its inaccessibility, the challenge is to have high-quality models that are capable of achieving the pixel density and retina display for a lifelike virtual immersion
- Identity & Reputation: Personal identification and representation are effortless when it comes to the real world. Nonetheless, when discussing Virtual Surroundings or the Metaverse, it is natural to wonder what one's identity will be in these virtual environments. Even more important will be to demonstrate that you are who you say you are, rather than someone, or even a machine, impersonating you. This is where reputation can be helpful, not only for authentication but also for confirming that the entity with which one is interacting is trustworthy and legitimate
- Privacy and Data Security: Metaverse will store information other than users' email addresses and passwords as is the norm now. It also tracks actions of its users. With such a massive data mine, technology must ensure user privacy and personal data security; this will necessitate implementation of better security measures
- Space and Time: While comparing the real world to a virtual one, people's perception of time can differ because they are less aware of their bodies while immersed in Virtual Reality. Because of the total immersion experience, people may spend more time in the Metaverse. Given the possibility of users experiencing altered senses of time, it is necessary to implement procedures that will ensure users can transition between the real world and virtual world in a happily-adjusted manner
- Metaverse Currency & Payment Systems: Metaverse will undoubtedly have a virtual marketplace that connect physical and digital currencies to facilitate quick and simple exchange. Regardless of the currency or marketplace format used, developing a unique new transaction verification mechanism will be significant in terms of transaction security. The challenge in engaging in any commerce within the Metaverse will be to persuade users that they can rely on it and, more importantly, feel comfortable doing so
- Ownership and Property: NFTs are gaining increased popularity, and these will continue to generate news in the coming months, attracting more investors and consumers to cryptocurrency and digital assets. Creating a unified system that can validate the owners of virtual assets in the Metaverse will be a significant challenge. Similar to NFTs being used to represent ownership rights for art, music, videos, etc
- Legal & Jurisdictional Systems: The Metaverse is bound to bring many users together, making it a great place to communicate and exchange information. However, it also puts users at risk if no regulations govern the Metaverse's boundaries. It will be challenging to define jurisdictions and a set of laws ensuring the virtual environment is safe and secure for its users
